Find a Playground Near You in Tampa
A useful park choice starts with your side of town. These 11 Tampa parks have playgrounds listed by the city or county, with addresses and planning links checked on October 4, 2026. Use the comparison table to find a nearby option, then check the park's official page for closures before driving.
For a downtown outing, Curtis Hixon pairs play with the Riverwalk and museums. Al Lopez offers shaded playground areas. Ballast Point combines waterfront scenery with a playground and splash pad, while Lettuce Lake pairs play with nature trails. Shade changes through the day; it does not mean every slide or swing stays cool.
Current planning cautions: Ballast Point's official page still lists its fishing pier as closed for hurricane repairs. Lettuce Lake's county notice lists boardwalk repairs, a closed observation tower and suspended canoe/kayak access and rentals. Do not build an outing around those amenities without checking their status.

Addresses for municipal playgrounds come from the City of Tampa playground directory. Rowlett has multiple entrances: its current park map uses East Yukon Street, while the directory uses 2501 River Hills Drive. County park links below confirm Westchase and Lettuce Lake.
11 Outdoor Playgrounds in Tampa
1. Al Lopez Park — Shaded Play and Picnics
Address: 4810 N Himes Ave, Tampa, FL 33614
The city's Al Lopez Park page describes multiple playground areas with shaded structures and seating. It is a useful starting point when you want playground time and a picnic in one park.
Choose equipment that fits your child's abilities, inspect hot surfaces and plan shade breaks. There is no verified basis here for calling this Tampa's largest or safest playground. For a birthday outing, check shelter reservations rather than assuming an empty pavilion is available.
2. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park — Downtown Play
Address: 600 N Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL 33602
The official park page lists a shaded playground for ages 2–12 and two splash pads. Nearby Glazer Children's Museum and the Riverwalk make this a practical downtown stop.
Bring a change of clothes if water play is part of your plan. The city's splash-pad page publishes seasonal hours for the Louvre fountain; this does not mean all water features close for winter. Check operation and event access before visiting. Use the nearby garage or street-parking rules, not a promised free-parking assumption.
3. Cypress Point Park — Westshore Playground and Bay Views
Address: 5620 W Cypress St, Tampa, FL 33607
The city park page lists a playground near restrooms and picnic shelters, plus beach access, trails, disc golf and sand volleyball. This is Westshore, not a South Tampa splash-pad destination. The city's splash-pad directory does not list Cypress Point.
The city beaches page lists free parking Monday–Friday before noon. At other times, the published rate is $1 for the first hour and $2 for each additional hour. Check posted payment instructions on arrival.
4. Lowry Park — A Public Park Near ZooTampa
Address: 7525 N Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33604
Lowry Park has a municipal playground, picnic space and walking opportunities. It is separate from ZooTampa: the zoo's ticketed attractions and Billabong splash pad are not public-park amenities.
Use the public-park entrance for a playground-only outing. If combining it with the zoo, allow time to move between destinations rather than assuming the playground is inside zoo admission.
5. Gadsden Park — Playground and Paved Trail
Address: 6901 S MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL 33611
Gadsden has a playground, ball fields, picnic facilities and a fishing lake. The city's MacDill Trail page describes a 1.47-mile asphalt trail through the park.
This is an option when one child wants playground time and another wants a walk. Follow posted trail rules and keep children away from the lake edge. Field use and organized activities can change how busy a visit feels.
6. Rowlett Park — Playgrounds and Picnic Shelters
Address: 2401 E Yukon St, Tampa, FL 33604 (park-map address)
The city's 2026 Rowlett park map shows two playgrounds, picnic shelters, parking areas, restrooms and tennis courts. Check the map before choosing an entrance so you do not park far from the playground you want.
Do not plan a skateboard outing based on older descriptions of a “skate park” here. Rowlett is not listed in the city's skate-park directory; a hockey rink is not the same facility.
7. Palma Ceia Park — South Tampa Neighborhood Play
Address: 2200 S Marti St, Tampa, FL 33629
The city confirms a playground at this address. It is a neighborhood option for families already in South Tampa, rather than a reason to cross the entire region.
Palma Ceia Park and Palma Ceia Lions Park are different parks. Use South Marti Street for this entry; the Lions Park playground is at 4525 W Pearl Ave. Check the equipment and available shade on arrival instead of relying on an unsupported toddler-only age recommendation.
8. Ballast Point Park — Waterfront Playground and Splash Pad
Address: 5300 Interbay Blvd, Tampa, FL 33611
The city page lists a playground/tot lot, splash pad, picnic shelters and waterfront facilities. Bring towels if the splash pad is operating.
Check before going: the city page lists the fishing pier as closed for hurricane repairs. Its splash-pad hours also differ from the aquatics page. Confirm current operation through the park or the city's advisories; do not promise a fishing-pier visit or fixed water-play hours.
9. Westchase Park & Recreation Center — Play and Sports
Address: 9791 Westchase Dr, Tampa, FL 33626
The county park page lists a playground, basketball court, picnic shelters and an open field. The center serves residents and nonresidents; scheduled programs are separate from a casual playground visit.
This entry refers to the county park on Westchase Drive, not a private community pool or a different playground on Countryway Boulevard. Check program and rental requirements if you want more than outdoor play.
10. Lettuce Lake Park — Playground and Nature
Address: 6920 E Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL 33637
The county park page lists a playground, paved trail, picnic facilities, restrooms and a visitor center. Admission is $2 cash per vehicle for up to eight people; rentals cost extra when available.
The county's August 13, 2026 notice lists boardwalk sections under repair, shelters 5 and 7 closed, the observation tower closed and canoe/kayak access and rentals suspended. 11. Davis Islands Park — Playground on Columbia Drive
Address: 155 Columbia Dr, Tampa, FL 33606
The city's playground directory confirms this playground, and its basketball directory lists outdoor basketball at the park.
This is not the dog beach or dog park on Severn Avenue. Navigate to Columbia Drive for children's playground equipment, and plan a separate stop if you want to visit the island's other facilities.
Choose by Your Family's Needs

- Rain or extreme heat: Choose an indoor playground by area instead. Paid play centers have different age, sock and reservation rules from public parks.
Before You Go
Check the city park advisories or the county park's own page for closures. Bring water, sunscreen, hats and a change of clothes for water play. Check slides and climbing surfaces for heat, supervise near water and leave exposed areas if you hear thunder.
For toddlers, look at equipment height, sightlines, exits and distance from water when you arrive. A park's name or a “best” label cannot establish that it fits every child's abilities. Restroom access can change during repairs or events, so check the relevant park map when planning a longer stay.
