Tampa does Christmas a little differently. Santa arrives in shorts sometimes, the ice rink sits next to palm trees, and the "snow" at most events comes out of a machine. Kids don't care. They want Santa, a parade, and something that feels like winter, and Tampa Bay has plenty of all three.
This guide covers the Christmas events worth planning around in 2026: parades, Santa visits, ice skating, Snowfest, and a few quieter traditions. For drive-through and neighborhood light displays, see our separate Tampa Christmas lights guide. We kept this list to the events themselves.
About dates: some 2026 dates are already announced and marked as confirmed below. Others hadn't been posted when we checked in late September 2026, so we list the 2025 details and the usual timing. Check the official page before you go.
Christmas parades in Tampa Bay, 2026
Parades are the easiest free Christmas outing with kids. Here's what's on the calendar so far, earliest first.
| Parade | Where | 2026 date and time | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tampa Santa Fest Parade | Downtown Tampa, Madison Street to Curtis Hixon Park | Saturday, December 5, parade 1 p.m., tree lighting 6 p.m. | Listed on the event's Facebook page; not yet on tampa.gov |
| Zephyrhills Festival of Lights & Christmas Parade | 5th Avenue, downtown Zephyrhills | Saturday, December 5, festival 4–9 p.m., parade 7 p.m. | Confirmed by Main Street Zephyrhills |
| Apollo Beach Lighted Boat Parade | Apollo Beach canals, hosted by the Tampa Sailing Squadron | Saturday, December 12, 5 p.m. | Confirmed on the Tampa Sailing Squadron calendar |
| Brandon Parade of Lights | Oakfield Drive, Brandon | Saturday, December 12, 5:30 p.m. | Confirmed |
| Holiday Lighted Boat Parade | Hillsborough River, downtown Tampa | Saturday, December 19, 6:15 p.m. | Confirmed by the Tampa Riverwalk |
| St. Pete Santa Parade | Albert Whitted Park to North Straub Park | Not yet announced (2025 was November 29) | Check St. Pete Parks & Recreation |
The nighttime parades are the better bet for little kids. It's cooler, the lights do the work, and a 5:30 p.m. start still gets most kids home near bedtime.
Tampa
Santa Fest and Tree Lighting (downtown)
This is Tampa's official Christmas kickoff, and it's free. In 2025 it was on Saturday, December 6. The Santa Fest parade stepped off at 1 p.m. at Morgan and Madison Streets and ended at Ashley Drive and Cass Street. The City said the best viewing is along Madison Street.
The evening moves to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The tree lighting started at 6 p.m. in 2025, with seven trees lit at once, followed by a free outdoor Christmas movie on the lawn.
When: Usually the first Saturday of December. The event's Facebook listing shows Saturday, December 5, 2026 (parade 1 p.m., Santa Fest 1–5 p.m., tree lighting 6 p.m.). Confirm on tampa.gov closer to the date.
Where: Downtown Tampa, ending at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N Ashley Dr
Cost: Free
With little kids, do the parade or the tree lighting, not both. It's a long day, and downtown parking fills up.
Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park
For most Tampa kids, this is the closest they'll get to a snowy-movie Christmas. Winter Village sets up a real ice rink on the Riverwalk, with small holiday shops, a café, and weekend events. In 2025 it opened November 21 for its 10th season, and past seasons ran into early January.
What we know from the 2025 season:
- Ice skating: $17 per skater, including skate rental and 75 minutes on the ice. Reservations are online or by QR code on site.
- Winter Village Express: a 50-minute round trip on the TECO Line Streetcar to Ybor and back, with a sing-along, trivia, and milk and cookies.
- River of Lights: a Pirate Water Taxi holiday lights cruise leaving from the Winter Village stop.
- Sensory Relief Zone: a quiet space for kids who need a break, plus staff trained by CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities).
Walking around is free; you pay for skating and the extras. For first-time skaters, go on a weekday afternoon. Weekend evenings are crowded, and a crowded rink is not where a six-year-old learns to skate.
Where: Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, downtown Tampa
2026 details: TBA; check wintervillagetampa.com and the Winter Village Facebook page for hours
Christmas in the Country at Cracker Country (confirmed for 2026)
This one is easy to miss, and it's great for kids who like doing things with their hands. Cracker Country is a living history village at the Florida State Fairgrounds with 13 original buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s. For one day, it's decorated for an old Florida Christmas.
Kids make salt dough and paper ornaments and try pioneer chores, like churning butter and washing clothes on a washboard. For $2 each, they can dip a beeswax candle, twist rope, or dye with indigo. There's live music and a general store with old-fashioned toys and candy.
When: Saturday, December 12, 2026, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: Cracker Country, Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 US Hwy 301 N, Tampa
Cost: Tickets are sold online through the Fairgrounds site; hands-on extras are $2 each
Christmas in the Wild at ZooTampa (confirmed for 2026)
ZooTampa lights up after hours with big light displays, holiday treats, and animals. The 2026 calendar shows member-only nights on November 27–28. Public nights run on select evenings from December 4 through December 30, 4–10 p.m. (closing at 9 p.m. after Christmas).
The zoo listed admission after 4 p.m. at $34.95. It's included with a ZooTampa membership or a Zoo Fun ticket, and no reservations are needed.
Where: ZooTampa at Lowry Park, 1101 W Sligh Ave, Tampa
Busch Gardens Christmas Town (confirmed for 2026)
Christmas Town runs select dates from November 13, 2026 through January 4, 2027. It's included with regular park admission. Expect Santa's North Pole Experience, Sesame Street holiday shows, an ice show, and coasters under the lights. We wrote a full Busch Gardens Christmas Town guide for families with a plan for toddlers.
Holiday Lighted Boat Parade on the Riverwalk (confirmed for 2026)
Decorated boats cruise the Hillsborough River past the Riverwalk at night. The 2026 parade is Saturday, December 19, 2026, starting at 6:15 p.m. near the lighthouse off Davis Islands and passing Sparkman Wharf, Harbour Island, and the Convention Center. It's free, and kids love it. Details and viewing spots are in our Christmas lights guide.
Brandon and east Hillsborough
Brandon Parade of Lights (confirmed for 2026)
A nighttime parade built around lighted floats, which suits kids much better than a hot midday parade. The organizers and the Brandon Riverview Chamber list it for Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. It's free to attend. In 2025 the route ran along Oakfield Drive, starting at Lakewood Drive and ending at Vonderburg Drive.
Bring chairs and arrive early for a curb spot. It's one of the bigger parades in the county.

St. Petersburg
St. Pete's parks department runs a full holiday schedule. The 2025 lineup looked like this, and most of it comes back each year:
- Santa Parade and Tree Lighting: Saturday, November 29, 2025. The lighted parade started at Albert Whitted Park at 6:30 p.m. and ended at North Straub Park for the tree lighting. Free.
- Snowfest: Saturday, December 6, 2025, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., North Straub Park. Toboggan slides for kids and adults, inflatables, crafts, and food trucks. A $5 wristband covered all activities except food.
- Santa in North Straub Park: December 13–23, 2025, 6–9 p.m. Bring your own camera. Free.
- Cookies with Santa: December 13–14, 2025 at the Pinellas Pioneer Settlement. $5 for s'mores, crafts, and Santa time. Registration was required.
- Santa at the library: Free visits at five St. Pete libraries in mid-December, and each child got a free book.
Check St. Pete Parks & Recreation in November for 2026 dates. Snowfest wristbands have been sold ahead of time online and at city rec centers.
Clearwater
Winter Wonderland (downtown Clearwater)
Downtown Clearwater sets up a small holiday village with lights, real pine trees, and Santa on select December evenings. In 2025 it ran 6–9 p.m. on select nights at 201 N Fort Harrison Ave, with free admission; organizers accepted unwrapped toy donations. It's low-key, which makes it a good pick for toddlers.
Breakfast with Santa
These sell out, often within days of tickets going on sale in November. Prices below are from 2025.
| Where | 2025 details |
|---|---|
| The Florida Aquarium, Tampa | December weekend mornings. $65 adults, $45 kids 3–11, free for 2 and under (member discounts). Included aquarium admission and a Santa photo. |
| Clearwater Marine Aquarium | December 20, 9 a.m. – noon. $65. Santa photo, crafts, cookie decorating, and animal presentations. |
| Seminole City Park | December 20, two seatings. $7 per person, bought in advance at the rec center. |
The aquarium breakfasts cost more, but admission is included. If you were going to visit anyway, they aren't a bad deal. The rec center versions are the budget move and feel more like a small-town event.
"Snow" in Tampa, honestly
People search for snow in Tampa every December. Real snow here is close to a once-in-a-lifetime event. The flurries locals still talk about fell in January 1977.
If your kid wants winter, your realistic options are:
- Ice skating at Winter Village in downtown Tampa.
- Snowfest in St. Pete, with toboggan slides and a winter theme.
- Christmas on Ice at Busch Gardens, a skating show during Christmas Town.
None of them are a snowball fight. All of them beat a PowerPoint about snow.
Planning tips for Christmas events with kids
- Pick one big thing per weekend. December fills up fast, and a parade plus a lights show plus a Santa line in one day is how you end up carrying a crying kid to the car.
- Parades at night beat parades at noon. Brandon's Parade of Lights and St. Pete's lighted parade are cooler and more magical than a daytime route in the sun.
- Book Santa breakfasts early. Set a reminder for early November.
- Bring a jacket anyway. Most December nights are mild, but a cold front can make a waterfront evening event chilly.
