Most kids under 8 aren't making it to midnight, and honestly, most parents aren't either. That's why Tampa's New Year's Eve for families happens at noon.
The museums and the zoo all run daytime countdowns with balloon drops, and they're genuinely fun. You get the big moment, then everyone is home by nap time or dinner.

Glazer Children's Museum: Downtown Countdown
This is the one most Tampa parents of toddlers and preschoolers end up at. Glazer's Downtown Countdown runs on December 31 with themed crafts and a balloon drop at the top of every hour, each one "celebrating" a different country's New Year.
It's included with museum admission. The hourly drops are the smart part. You don't have to fight for a spot at noon; if the 11 a.m. drop works better for your nap schedule, go to that one.
Museum hours on New Year's Eve can differ from a normal day, so check them before you go. Times for 2026 weren't posted when we checked.

MOSI: Quantum Countdown
MOSI's version is for kids who are a bit older and want more than a balloon drop. In 2025, Quantum Countdown: Level Up to 2026 ran 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It had a video game theme, science demos, karaoke, and two countdowns, at noon and at 3 p.m.
Admission was $15 for kids 3 to 17 and $20 for adults, with a special countdown planetarium show for $10 more. MOSI recommended buying ahead because space was limited.

ZooTampa: New Year Celebration
The zoo's New Year Celebration sets up in the Africa Circle with a countdown every hour. In 2025 it ran 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a live DJ, festive food, kid activities, and giveaways.
It works well if your kids would rather see giraffes than sit through crafts. You can do a countdown, see some animals, and leave whenever. ZooTampa lists it on its events page as an annual event, so expect it back. More on planning a zoo day in our ZooTampa guide.

Armature Works: Noon Year's Eve for kids
Armature Works in Tampa Heights has hosted an outdoor Noon Year's Eve on its lawns for years. In 2025 it ran 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a noon countdown. Listings for that year disagreed on cost: some called it free, while others advertised a $24.99 package with a pizza and juice "toast." Check Armature Works' event page once it's posted so you know what you're buying.
It's outdoors, so it's the pick if your kids need to run around. It's also close to the Riverwalk if you want a walk afterward.

Great Explorations (St. Petersburg)
New Year's at Noon at Great Explorations is a solid little-kid party. In 2025 it ran 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with party hats, a disco glow room, free Papa John's pizza while it lasted, and a confetti party at noon. Tickets were $18 per person, or $12 for members, and couldn't be combined with other discounts.

LEGOLAND Florida: Kids' New Year's Eve (confirmed for 2026)
This is the one event with 2026 confirmed. Kids' New Year's Eve is December 31, 2026, and it's included with regular park admission and select annual passes. Midnight comes early here: the park does its fireworks and New Year's countdown in the evening, well before bedtime.
It's about an hour from Tampa in Winter Haven, so it makes sense if you were already planning a LEGOLAND day over winter break. Ages 2 to 12 get the most out of it.
Where to watch midnight fireworks with kids
If you have older kids who want the real thing, these are the public fireworks shows nearby. We couldn't confirm a city-run midnight fireworks show in downtown Tampa, so we left it off this list.
St. Pete Pier. St. Petersburg's city fireworks go off at midnight over the bay and can be seen from the Pier and along the downtown waterfront. In 2025, the Pier's NYE party ran 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with music and food trucks, and it was free and open to all ages, per the St. Pete Pier. Parking downtown fills up, so arrive early or park farther out and walk.
Clearwater Beach. Light It Up Clearwater launches fireworks at midnight from the north end of Sand Key Park. Sand Key itself is closed for the show; the best viewing is from the south end of Clearwater Beach. A beach blanket and a sleeping bag for the youngest ones is the move.
Midnight is late for most kids. If you go, plan a long afternoon nap, bring ear protection for anyone sensitive to noise, and know where you parked. Leaving 10 minutes before the finale beats sitting in beach traffic for an hour.
Tips for New Year's Eve with kids
- Pick the countdown time, not the event. Glazer's hourly drops and MOSI's 3 p.m. countdown give you more than one shot. That matters with toddlers.
- Buy tickets early for the museums. MOSI and Great Explorations both said space was limited in 2025. Great Ex's online presale closed the morning of the event.
- Do the noon party and skip the midnight one. Counting down at noon, then watching a recorded ball drop at 7 p.m. at home, is a legitimate family tradition. Kids don't check the clock.
- Watch the weather. December nights in Tampa can drop into the 50s. For outdoor fireworks, bring layers.
